Using world leading capacitive technology, the ProCVT “SmartSheet” will make clinical level biometric data capture effortless and scalable. Placed directly on a mattress, under the bed sheet, it will take continuous ECG and body temperature readings through light clothing; data is sent to PBM systems in real time or the moment you get up. It is a “fit and forget” and Internet of Things device. PBM systems will output four layers of vital signs analysis : temperature, heart rate, respiration rate and CVT. The interrelationships between these vital signs and the deviations from an individual’s benchmark readings will be the basis of an incident alert system for carers and nurses, remotely monitoring issues such as pain, discomfort, viral infection and leaving the bed during the night. Medical professionals will be able to conduct a more in-depth analysis of vital signs data over longer periods of time.

PBM Cloud Based Systems

PBM’s cloud based systems are responsible for processing ECG metadata into vital signs data. Respiration rate measurement is derived by implementation of state of the art algorithms which combine baseline ECG signal and QRS complex amplitudes. Temperature measurements through three layers of material have been shown to correlate with an armpit reading.

At the core of our systems is the implementation of Dr Peter Julu’s CVT algorithm. This algorithm is only suitable for perfectly clean clinical data, so in order to deploy CVT to non-clinical settings PBM systems need to ‘clean’ the ECG data of artefacts. Complex data cleansing software to identifies and potentially fix artefacts to ensure that a continuous, consistent and smooth output was obtained from the algorithm. As part of this process the system assigns a confidence score to each reading so as a measure of the input data quality.

As well as processing the CVT data, PBM systems allow CVT data that is being streamed from ProCVT to be combined with other streams and viewed remotely on another mobile device.

Current data capture technology

While the sheet monitor is being developed, PBM is still able to deliver its valuable health and wellbeing insights using high resolution ECG data taken from a digital micro-sensor worn on the chest. Data is sent to PBM’s servers where heart rate, respiration rate and CVT is calculated and visible in real time via a mobile app, or analysed retrospectively on the web app
